Morning Updates- 10/31/2011

Hello everyone. I don't have much time this morning, what with getting ready for class and things, so I'll give you a quick rundown.

-- Occupy Nashville had police everywhere they looked last night, but when they started filming, and media showed up to ask about the lawsuits, they vanished. Hurrah for another night of freedom!

-- Police in Richmond called out one hour for protesters to clean up and get out, but reports from the Occupiers say they moved in after fifteen minutes. There have been arrests, but it is not clear how many.

-- Support for Occupy Oakland's General Strike on Nov. 2 is growing, according to several reports.

-- Doctors are saying that Scott Olsen should make a full recovery. Much love to him. :)

-- Many Occupy movements have something fun planned for Halloween. Check with yours to see if they have plans.

** This is all I have for now. I will be posting more on the blog this afternoon, when I have time to collect the information. Don't forget to check back! **

Occupy Updates 10/30/2011

Hello everyone. Here's the most recent news I have found for us.

- Occupy Nashville was left alone last night! They are very happy.

- Occupy Denver was raided last night around 8pm. They were shot at, and their belongings were thrown in the trash. They were told to clear the park, but that sidewalks were okay to sleep on, so they moved to the sidewalks to avoid arrest.

- Occupy Oakland planned to march to the Police Department, but were diverted by police lines along the way. They peacefully reassembled at the plaza.

- Two dozen protesters were arrested in Portland, Oregon, last night when they refused to vacate a park. A quote from one of the protesters: "Tweeting with your hands twist tied is surprising difficult."

- 38 Occupiers have been arrested in Austin, Texas, after they refused to leave the area around City Hall. Their food tables were dismantled. Two days ago, the city of Austin issued rules saying food tables at the event must be put away between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

- Occupy Albuquerque has a new tradition that they are sharing. When someone is arrested for Civil Disobedience, they receive a silver painted zip tie to wear on their wrist as a badge of honor for the courage they have displayed. They are asking that this be shared to other movements.

- Occupy Anchorage invaded the De'naina Center last night to protest Karl Rove's appearance. They were removed from the center after chanting "Arrest Karl Rove" throughout his speech.

- Occupy Egypt has been marching in solidarity. A quote from an Egyptian news article states: "Things in the USA have gone seriously wrong when protesters in a Mideast police state are feeling sympathy for America."

- Occupy Tampa was raided last night, with 3 people being arrested. Reports are spotty.

- Occupy Wall Street is braving frigid temperatures and three inches of slushy snow. Some have been referring to themselves as Occupopsicles.

- Occupy Copenhagen was torn down three days ago, and apparently police are baffled at how quickly they reassembled everything and almost doubled in number.

Occupy updates 10/29/2011

Hello all,

Here are some updates from Occupy locations. I'm providing as much current info as I can.

**Today in 1929 was the day the stock market crashed.**

Occupy Nashville protesters were arrested last night. They had around 25 arrests, including a reporter, a legal observer, and an elderly man who confronted police. They were later released with only citations. Immediately after release, they marched back to the Plaza, and have been there ever since. They are expecting another raid tonight, but with every raid, their numbers grow.

An unusual October snowstorm is heading to the Northeast. Snow and heavy winds are expected. Occupy Wall Street is attempting to get donations for bicycle powered generators, since theirs were confiscated by police. "OWS is in desperate need of warm-weather sleeping bags, long johns, gloves and other supplies to keep them warm as the snow rolls in this weekend."-- from their website.

Occupy Oakland has declared Wednesday, November 2, General Strike and Mass Day of Action. When Mayor Jean Quan got in line to speak at a GA, she was booed off the stage. They are setting up a "Text Blast" system, where they use a short code to give people information on the fly. *Also, Scott Olsen's condition has been upgraded to fair. He is still unable to speak, but is aware and understands when people speak to him.*

Occupy Atlanta occupied private space last night as they decide where to go. A homeless man, known as Copper, credits OccupyAtlanta with helping him to cure his addiction to crack and saving his life. Proud of them!

Occupy Chicago is having difficulties finding a permanent location. The city is refusing to let them choose a location, and will not drop charges against those they have arrested.

Occupy San Diego- The ACLU is attempting to get charges dropped, because many arrested protesters cannot afford to bail out.

Worldwide----

London- St. Pal's Cathedral is seeking legal action to remove protesters.

Occupy Melbourne marched last night in solidarity to OWS. Their numbers are growing as they march to different Universities.

South Africa- 2000 Johannesburg youths marched on the Chamber of Mines and Stock Exchange.

Occupy movements are cropping up in Slovenia, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, New Zealand, Egypt, Germany, and many others.
